about

Mad as hell and not willing to take it anymore, Bronx Slang offer the ultimate response to what the world is trying to peddle. ‘Just Say No’ hustles the status quo out the picture with funk fit for a king or kingpin, a classic uptown fanfare for a celebratory ticker tape parade. Far from offering high fives, Beeks & Miggs tag team with another state of the nation supply of both questions and answers, promising to “represent with no embellishments”. Fight for your right, shut ‘em down, ‘Just Say No’.

‘Just Say No’ follows ‘Copy That’, recommended by BBC 6 Music’s Steve Lamacq and played and playlisted by DJ Tony Touch on the infamous Toca Tuesdays NYC Show via Eminem’s Shade 45 station on SiriusXM Satellite Radio. Both are predictably defiant acts from the New York pair’s sophomore album, produced by UK connection Fake Blood and Jadell and arriving some time in 2021.

The ‘Bronx Slang’ LP of 2019, championed by DJ Premier and described as one of the highlights of the hip-hop calendar by DJ Magazine, realised the pair's reverence for Grandmaster Caz and LL Cool J’s ‘I Need a Beat’, a match of undiluted funk caught up in the hustle where the guns go blast, and bars, hooks, scenarios and stars pole-axed from their pedestal.

‘Just Say No’ gives fans a further fresh taste of Beeks & Miggs’ firebrand wisdom, following last year’s ‘Bronx Kill’ mixtape going hard for 19 tantalising minutes, with selections aired by BBC 6 Music’s Huey Morgan.

about

Bronx Slang Bronx, New York

As Bronx Slang, Jerry Beeks and Ollie Miggs yield not to evil as the calls for golden age purism grow louder.

They offer a solid gold guarantee of being able to “pickpocket your playlist, shoplift your pop hits / and show you how gritty hip-hop can get”.

“If hip-hop is dead, then it’s a brand new start” – welcome to a resurgence straight out the Boogie Down Bronx.
